Adele has been named the most performed artist at karaoke in 2012. 'Someone Like You' is the most popular song of the year, according to karaoke website Lucky Voice.

The service revealed that out of the 3.1 million songs available, the ballad accounted for 7.4% of all plays this year.

Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' came in second place with 5.4%, followed by One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' in third.

Adele has three songs in the top ten, with 'Rolling in the Deep' at four, and her version of 'Make You Feel My Love' at six.

Queen, Bon Jovi and Journey also appear in the top ten as the only 'classic' tracks.

Gotye and Kimbra's big-seller 'Somebody That I Used To Know' finishes at number ten.

Adele was recently named the top Billboard artist for a second year running in the US, while her 21 LP was the top album.

Why America should embrace Fifth Harmony

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

via glooce

It's been quite the hot minute since pop culture has glorified "girl power." At least that's what Simon Cowell thinks. The concept most recognizably takes the form of a young female pop group as it skyrockets to the top of the charts.

Now not since Beyonce decided Destiny had only one child, have we seen the rise of a talented world-famous girl group. That's why Cowell has manufactured one out of five quirky, talented, young vocalists from all over the country who auditioned for the current season of The X Factor. Together, Fifth Harmony are supplying a healthy dose of "girl power," and they best continue whether they win the reality TV singing competition or not.

Unlike the Spice Girls, another set of manufactured girl-empowered pop stars, the Fifth Harmony gals comes off as genuine despite their quickly increasing production value. Their rendition of Ellie Goulding's "Anything Could Happen" was like something you'd see at the VMAs. The dresses, the ballon table, the fairy waiters, everything was bombastically saccharine, reminiscent of Katy Perry's current cotton candy craze, yet it did not feel sticky nor cringe-worthy. In fact, if anything, whereas late 20-something Perry comes off ridiculous wearing cupcakes for bras, Fifth Harmony's princess-inspired performance was the epitome of age-appropriateness, their sweet sixteen.

The new girl group first made their pink-tinged splash performing for Cowell (and Marc Anthony?) at the producer's home. Considering the five girls originally auditioned as solo artists and proved their place in the preliminary sing-offs, it's no surprise their joined-force rendition of "Impossible" showed that behind the cutesy, girly personas were truly powerhouse singers with an affinity for catchy vocal stylings. It was X-Factor fate that these five super talented teens would one day join forces and perform. Perhaps reality TV does have its place as the only stage where stars this big ever come across each other's paths and join to become supernovas. How else would five star-quality singers meet and decide to pursue a recording contract?

Week after week to hear each Fifth Harmony member pull her weight in the vocal department was extremely gratifying, especially being truly discerning about not being enough talent currently on television. Britney Spears didn't deserve the $15 million salary to be an X-Factor judge, and Khloe Kardashian didn't deserve her 15 minutes of fame to play host.

And it's not just their impressive voices that sets them apart from girl group gone by. Fifth Harmony's girlish spark is a refreshing alternative to the current state of female pop star affairs. The last American girl group to gain fame was made up of one hyper-sexualized singer (who also recorded all the background vocals) surrounded by an actual horde of strippers. And as if that wasn't demeaning enough, the Pussycat Dolls inspired copy cats, the Dolls themselves the obviously unoriginal knock-off of the sleazy Vegas burlesque show by the same name, setting up a debased template for how girl groups should be.

In their X-Factor live shows, Fifth Harmony has chosen to perform songs about first love, heartbreak, friendship and... well, girl power. Twice they belted out songs originally performed by X-Factor judge Demi Lovato. In both instances, Lovato confessed the five singers did a better job, as if the songs were written specifically for them. Which makes sense seeing how Disney-fit Fifth Harmony is.

In that sense, Fifth Harmony is modeled more similar to the British girl group tradition, responsible for initiating the girl power wave with the Spice Girls. Unlike Aubrey O'Day and friends, you never saw the members of The Sugarbabes, Girls Aloud or All Saints use a stripper pole in their dance routines. (5h really are the new Girls Aloud!!!!!) More recently, X-Factor UK contestants Little Mix joined this sorority for the squeaky clean but quirky.

In a time when teen girls get promised national attention for getting pregnant rather than for following their dreams, and sex tapes seem to be the fast track to fame, the voices of Fifth Harmony deserve to be loud. We can only hope that, even if they go home next week, they will continue to make music. If only because I want my sisters to grow up knowing that it's not impossible for five talented 16-year-old girls to take over the world, big bows and all.

Kesha fails with Warrior at Billboard Charts.Taylor Swift slays again

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

via glooce

Ke$ha's new album, "Warrior," failed to reach the Top 5 on Billboard's Hot 200 chart, selling only 85,000 copies; as a result, it was lapped by Taylor Swift's "Red." Swift's album sold 167,000 copies, a 22-percent increase over last week.

Wiz Khalifa came in second, moving 141,000 copies of his second studio album, "O.N.I.F.C."

"Warrior" also represents a big drop off from Ke$ha's first LP, "Animal." That album debuted at No. 1 in an admittedly dead stretch of January 2012, but nonetheless moved 152,000 units.

The newer album represented a sonic shift for Ke$ha, who reunited with not only hit-makers like Dr. Luke but also worked with rockers like The Black Keys' Patrick Carney and The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne. The singer also told The Huffington Post that th music represents her present state of mind. "I write about my life in my music and I have very little filter so basically it would be impossible for me to separate my music and the rest of my life," Ke$ha said. "My music is a representation of my life and vice-versa."

Swift's "Red" sold 1.2 million copies in its first week, easily outpacing all the competition. Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire" popped Swift out of the top slot last week, but the young country-lite singer reclaimed the spot in this week's tepid field.

Other chart notes, via Billboard: Bruno Mars overcame Britney Spears (with will.i.am.) and Rihanna on the singles chart as his "Locked Out of
Heaven" outsold "Scream & Shout" and "Diamonds."

Jessie Ware Interview with Village Voice

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

via glooce

Aaliyah and Sade-Inspired Jessie Ware Brings Her "British Electronic Soul Music" To Town

Okay, so how would you describe Jessie Ware's sound to an inquiring mind?
It's British, electronic soul music. That's how I would describe it.

Which artists had a strong influence on you in your younger years? I know that you're a big fan of '90s R&B...
Girl groups like TLC, SWV and Destiny's Child, I loved what they were doing and it was really good fun. They didn't take themselves too seriously, they were flirtatious and it was great music. Lauryn Hill, too. I was mad about The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill album, it was an album that really stuck with me and I'd play it and knew all the words. I used to watch loads of MTV Base when I was younger: Lucy Pearl, Montell Jordan, Jon B, those guys were on all the time. And so much JLo, so much Jennifer Lopez [laughs]. I watched that all the time and pretended that I was in the videos.

What are your thoughts on R&B today, though? It's definitely not what it used to be...
I feel like it's getting there. People like Frank Ocean and Miguel are amazing and exciting new R&B stars, and I really liked Usher's "Climax" song with Diplo. There's still good R&B music out there. I also like a girl called Rochelle Jordan, she's really cool.

Would you like to work with anyone you've just listed there?
Yeah, most definitely. I'm a bit worried Frank Ocean's going to issue some kind of restraining order on me [laughs]. I just love his vibe. I think Miguel's amazing, he sounds like Marvin Gaye. The-Dream, that song "Yamaha" he made, I never stop playing it. Oh, and the Weeknd is so cool! The whole crew that he has around him is wicked. His producer, Illangelo, makes some really exciting stuff.

Speaking of producers, you've worked with some of the most innovative bass music producers out there, SBTRKT and Julio Bashmore being just a few of them. Do you have your ear on anyone else right now?
I'd like to work with Disclosure again, because I just think they're great. I think Perseus is really good. He changed "Night Light" from being this over-the-top ballad to this cute R&B duet between me and my producer using our backing vocals. Also Todd "The God" Edwards, he did a remix for me -- which I'm so, so happy about. I never get to go clubbing anymore [laughs].

You're releasing your If You Never Gonna Move EP just for your fans in America, so what can they expect from it when it's released on Cherrytree Records in January?
There will be a song off the album on there, and then some extras. I just think it's quite a fun way to start the year in America. They can expect a lot of me talking about love and exploring how to make an album -- there's loads of genres in there. I've got so many influences in there, so I've tried to combine them all into a big melting pot and hope it works. There are a few songs you can listen to when you're dancing, too [laughs].

And what kind of show do you have planned for your sold out show at The Box in New York City tonight?
I've heard The Box is quite small and I've heard it's quite a raunchy place. It's got willies everywhere, apparently [laughs]. I'm going to pretend I'm a jazz singer because I like the idea of an intimate venue. I'm not going to sing jazz [laughs], but I guess we'll just continue to do what we've been doing.

Nicole Scherzinger leaving Uk X Factor and Cheryl Cole in talks to a comeback

    NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

    via glooce

"Tulisa, Gary, and Nicole are set to leave -
with Cheryl Cole retaking her rightful place."

NICOLE Scherzinger has dealt X Factor bosses a hammer blow — by threatening to quit the show and reboot her own pop career.

A showbiz insider said: “Nicole has proved really popular with viewers – men want to be with her and women want to be her."

The former Pussycat Doll, 34, said that getting two of her acts — James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas — into the final would be the perfect exit strategy. She said: “I’m really glad I did the show. I don’t know if I’ll come back next year. End on a high, right?”

Nicole has emerged as the most popular judge on this year’s panel and her departure would be another nail in the coffin of the ailing ITV1 show. However, Nicole, who has a new album in the pipeline, is keen to go back on tour.

She said: “This year has changed my life. As an artist, it’s put into perspective what I want, how to go about it.

“People have made me so comfortable and I have to thank you.”

There were reports earlier in the series that Simon Cowell was eager to poach Mel B from the Australian version of the show after a successful guest judging stint.

Reports suggest that besides Scherzinger, the only judge Cowell wants to see return to the show is pal Louis Walsh.

“Tulisa has lost her touch this year and her heart doesn’t seem to be in it, while Gary has a new album and touring commitments with Take That,”the source said.

It has previously been reported that Cowell is intending to return to the UK version of the show next year, and that negotiations are at an advanced level with Cheryl Cole on her return.

The X Factor has lost millions of viewers in the UK this year, and is down almost 10 million on its peak in 2009.

Liverpool singer Christopher Maloney has seen his odds slashed with the bookies as millions have been placed on him to win the competition.

Why Christina Aguilera's music in decline?

    NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

    via glooce

    Photobucket

It was widely recognized that Christina Aguilera needed her latest album Lotus to be a hit after the lukewarm reception to 2010's Bionic.

That's not to say her previous record was a complete disaster - it charted in the top ten almost everywhere - but a glance at its sales (less than 1 million) and critics' reviews revealed a star that had suddenly fallen out of favor.

As such, the performance of Lotus seemed crucial to get the singer back on track, so entering in the UK charts last week at 28 with less than 10,000 copies sold and debuting with her lowest first-week sales ever in the US will surely be a major blow to her camp.

But how and why has this happened to Christina Aguilera? We've examined some possible reasons below.

She doesn't have the right material.
The biggest complaint about Bionic was the lack of obvious chart hits as well as its constant genre-hopping, which included everything from R&B and hip-hop to electro-rock and synthpop. She attempted to rectify this on Lotus by trailing it with 'Your Body'; a thumping, anthemic pop number helmed by Max Martin that sounded like an easy hit, but it still failed to connect to a wider audience (its highest peak was in the UK at number 16).

The album itself has a similar overall sound and includes duets with fellow Voice coaches Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton as well as an impressive list of songwriters and producers, which on paper should have proved more popular with the music-buying masses.

She's better known as a TV star than a popstar.
This could be a fairly sizeable factor, given the huge popularity of The Voice in the US. While many artists use these sorts of shows as a promotional tool for their music, Christina's major TV interviews just weeks (even days) before the album's release often focused more around the series than the album. Her decision to leave the show after its current run could be a reminder to everyone that she in fact a popstar, or it could simply see her presence diminish even further.

    She didn't promote Lotus enough.
An easy excuse often wheeled out by superfans, but in this case the argument holds weight. Christina's own push behind the album appeared to be minimal, with a few last-minute appearances in the US and zero promotion across Europe. This in part explains its dismal showing in the UK (it entered at number 28 with sales of 9,422 and has since dropped to 102 in today's midweek chart), but even Britney Spears - who didn't push Femme Fatale abroad - managed to reach number eight with over 30,000 sales in March last year.

    She's unlikeable.
It's a popular X Factor-ism, but Christina isn't exactly known for being personable. Unfortunately, most people like "nice" popstars these days, which is probably half the reason why Olly Murs is number one at the moment.

So what should she do next?
We think the main problem with Christina Aguilera is that in 2002's Stripped, she created an unbeatable album. An album that was too good. Follow-up Back to Basics was a smart move as it zagged where its former zigged, while Lotus wheels out the same "be yourself" message we've heard from every other female artist in the last two years. Christina is best when she commits to a complete image overhaul, which is what we'd suggest when/if there is an album six.

Rihanna gets " apologetic" about 777 Tour Disaster

      NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

      via glooce

Guess Rihanna is sort of "apologetic" after all.

Days five and six of the wild tour (in Berlin and London, respectively) dissolved into a "hopeless" situation, I blogged on Monday Nov. 19. Most passengers were deliriously deprived of sleep, food and sunlight; members of the press were upset that Rihanna had been completely unavailable for quotes, photos or much of anything offstage following day one of the tour. One particularly despondent Australian shock-jock even streaked naked through the plane in protest; in London, one journalist handed out fake "Missing: Rihanna" flyers.

On the final day, Rihanna (who reportedly heard about the "Missing" flyers) acknowledged what I call "Plane-a-Geddon" as the 777 prepared to land in NYC for one more concert.

Coming to the back of the plane to address the group, the "Diamonds" singer sheepishly addressed her in-flight press corp -- plopping down in an aisle seat right across from me.

"Guess what, we made it! This has been an experience the I will never ever forget. I barely slept. My sleeping was all done on this plane," explained the superstar, who kicked off the tour, heading toward Mexico City, in high spirits, pouring champagne for everyone. "I want to thank everyone for making this trip the sh--. I want to see the naked Australian!"

Despite the widely publicized snafus, Rihanna said: "I was glad I did this. absolutely. Tonight is the night everything we did this week goes off."

"I know you guys got barely any dirt," she told the disappointed writers. "But I had to be good. I still sound like sh--. It's impossible to spend time with everybody ( anybody), and I'm sorry I didn't. But this was excellent and I would definitely do it again."

Her plans for a similar tour? "I would do this next time with more people, more cities and sit back the the fans more. . . I had to preserve my health. Normally, I'd be back here popping bottles with y'all . . . I had to preserve my voice. I was worried about my body more than partying on the plane, so I had to just sleep whenever I could. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did."

Carly Rae Jepsen Gets Death Threats After American Music Awards Win

      NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

      By Alicia Diaz Dennis

Carly Rae Jepsen took home the American Music Award for New Artist of the Year on Sunday evening, making her the target of many an angry tween. But hey, now she has something in common with Taylor Swift. Also in music news, Psy and MC Hammer had the evening's most celebrated performance, Rihanna's tour plane is starting to smell, someone tried to get Alabama Shakes to do reality television, Slipknot wants to collaborate with Justin Bieber, and more.

"More Like Carly Rae Kill Yourself!"
One Direction didn't bother to attend the American Music Awards on Sunday, as they're a touch too busy promoting their new album Take Me Home in the UK. They also didn't have any reason to show up, as the quintet lost the New Artist of the Year award to "Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen.

Almost immediately after Carly's win, angry One Directioners took to Twitter to spew some vitriol. "carly rae jepsen more like carly rae kill yourself," one fan sniped. Another yell-tweeted, "CARLY RAE JEPSEN I'LL KILL YOU MAYBE." One fan directed her hate at everyone who dared vote for Carly: "IM SCREAMING SO LOUD WHO VOTED FOR CARLY RAE JEPSEN I WILL KILL YR FIRSTBORN."

Of course, this kind of behavior is really nothing new for teenyboppers. Teen pop death threats, a tale as old as time. Just ask Taylor Swift, who's been getting her fair share of online hate over those rumors that she and Harry Styles are an item

Lana Del Rey reveals inspiration behind 'My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola' lyric

      NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

      via glooce

Lana Del Rey has revealed the inspiration behind the bizarre lyrics to her new track 'Cola'.

The song, which features on the singer's forthcoming release 'Born To Die – The Paradise Edition', features the lyric: "My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola/ My eyes are wide like cherry pie" – scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to listen to a snippet of the song, along with previews of other tracks from the new album.

Asked about the phrase, Del Rey said it was something that her boyfriend, Kassidy frontman Barrie-James O'Neill and claimed: I have a Scottish boyfriend, and that's just what he says!
She also told Australian radio station Triple J that although she had been happy to release the song, the people she works with were less enthused. "I didn't but everyone around me did. They just thought it was really weird - nothing new here," she said when asked whether she had been hesitant about releasing the track. "For me that song was so cool. The guys got to play electric guitars… the chorus opens up and has tropical undertones. For me, the vibe of it is so good, I love it."

She added: "There was a lot of laughter. I'm getting lots of Pepsi comments, lots of Pepsi fanmail."

'Born To Die – The Paradise Edition' will be released on November 19 and will include her cover of 'Blue Velvet', as well as her recent single 'Ride' and the songs 'Body Electric', 'Gods & Monsters' and 'Yayo' . The first half of the record is credited to Rubin, Dan Heath, Justin Parker, Emile Hayne and Rick Nowels, and the second to Lana Del Rey.

Lana Del Rey initially recorded her cover of 'Blue Velvet' for a commercial for clothing company H&M. The 'Video Games' songstress became the new face of the fashion brand's 'LA noir' collection in July of this year and appears in a television advertisement singing the song, which has become heavily associated with cult filmmaker David Lynch's 1986 movie of the same name.

Taylor Swift's 'Red' Going for Third Week at No. 1, Sells 344,000 Second Week

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

After breaking record sales last week, Taylor Swift's newest album "Red" still stays atop the Billboard 200 chart in its second week as it pulls in sales of 344,000 more copies. The number adds to the album's already impressive selling number of 1.208 million copies, which is the largest sales for an album in its debut week since 2002.

Industry forecasters suggest that the album will spend a third straight week atop the Billboard 200 chart next week, fending off new releases from Aerosmith and Ne-Yo, as well as the new "Now 44" compilation.

The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 14.

"Now 44" looks to be the biggest of this week's new releases -- it's on course for a start around 100,000. While it's too early to tell exactly how many copies of "Red" Swift will sell this week, it should be enough to block "Now 44" from the top.

The last "Now" album, "Now 43," debuted at No. 1 in August with 111,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

After the "Now 44" set, we're looking towards returning rock band Aerosmith to lock up the second-largest debut. The veteran act's "Music From Another Dimension" should launch with around 75,000. It's the first album from the group since 2004's blues covers effort "Honkin' On Bobo" debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 2004 with a 161,000 start. Thus, the new album is Aerosmith's first set of original material since way back in 2001, when "Just Push Play" bowed (and peaked) at No. 2 (240,000).

Elsewhere next week, watch for R&B/pop singer/songwriter Ne-Yo to paint the chart "R.E.D." with his newest. It should secure the artist his fifth consecutive top 10 set (his entire output of material) with a bow in the 50,000 to 55,000 range.

Britney Spears confirms return To X Factor next year

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

When asked, she replied, "Yes, Definitely."

Britney Spears hasn't been bringing in the killer ratings "The X Factor" was hoping for when they shelled out $18 million for her to appear on the show -- so will she be back next season?

While the show has been greenlit for another go-around, it was unclear whether the pop star would be returning with it.

But when Spears was asked about it on the red carpet last night at a party for the finalists, she had a very clear answer.

A reporter asks her: "Do you think you'll be back for another season?"

        She says, "Yes, Definitely."

Nicki Minaj To Film Reality Show About Fashion Line

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

Nicki Minaj appears to have gotten the bug for having cameras follow her every move as she has revealed plans to film a new reality show based on her upcoming fashion line.

The 'Starships' rapper is currently starring in her first reality show, Nicki Minaj: My Truth, which airs on E! and follows the starlet as she prepares for her 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' tour while also charting the early days of her stint on American Idol.

With the launch of her first clothing line being scheduled for launch in 2013, Nicki says it could be filmed for a new fly-on-the-wall series - however, she has to overcome her fear of being criticized first.

"I'll see how overwhelming it is," Nicki told Billboard."If I feel like it's too personal, people discussing too much, I won't do it. I think overall, it's about overcoming everything when you're trying to get something done and how hard it is to balance everything. I was beginning American Idol, preparing the tour, doing video shoots. It should be called Multi-Tasking at its finest."

Speaking about her relationship with Mariah Carey on her docu-series, Nicki says that Mariah probably wasn't betting on meeting someone just as fiery and diva-like as her.

"I think Mariah met her match this time, and I don't think she was expecting to meet her match."

However, her bust up with Mariah may never have happened after the star admitted that she was unsure about whether or not she wanted to become a judge on the hit US TV talent show.

"I'm super nervous and anxious for the first day on American Idol. I'm still second guessing my decision. I'm probably going to be a hundred times guessing this decision because I'm human. It's a big job", Nicki said whilst cameras followed her around as she prepared for her first day on the show last month.

Nicki's fashion reality show plans follow hot on the heels of Rihanna's failed attempt at the same type of documentary, which was pulled from Sky Living this month due to scheduling issues.

"Scheduling all these popstars with our filming schedule was a nightmare. Rihanna’s diary was manic, and to be honest, after it struggled for viewers it was always going to be difficult to get her to agree to do another series," a source told Mail Online.

Madonna attacks again: "I have the best fans. So take that, Lady Gaga!!!"

During her latest concert in St. Paul, Madonna decided to restart her ongoing attack on all things Lady Gaga. It seems Madonna was offended because Lady Gaga rejected her invitation to perform together.

"I have the best fans in the whole world. So take THAT, Lady Gaga! You know, I invited her on stage to sing with me. But, she turned me down. It's okay. I've been rejected before, it builds a little character."

Christina Aguilera does NOT hate Lady Gaga as "sources" say

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

Christina Aguilera is supposedly “fuming with jealousy over Lady Gaga’s new perfume, Fame,” reports Star magazine.

According to a so-called “insider” for the magazine, “Christina is threatened by any successful woman, but Gaga really gets under her skin.”

“Christina’s fragrance line is her baby, and she’s extremely territorial — especially since her album sales have tanked,” explains the Star source.

The outlet alleges that Aguilera is calling her fellow singer a “beast.”

“When Gaga first arrived on the scene, Christina predicted she’d be a one-hit wonder,” says the mag’s source. “It drives her crazy that she was so wrong.”

What’s more, the tabloid says there could be an actual confrontation between the two stars looming.

“Christina can be really low-class and has been saying she wants to kick Gaga’s ass!” declares the Star insider, adding, “They could easily end up at the same party, especially with the holidays coming up. Things could really get out of hand.”

        Oh, my!

So are Aguilera and Gaga really close to rumbling at an upcoming Christmas soiree, asStar suggests?

        NO.

It turns out the tabloid that’s recently run some ridiculous stories about both singers is flat out WRONG here, too.

A source close to Aguilera tells Gossip Cop “it’s not true” that she and Gaga have any beef, adding, “they actually really like each other.”

Madonna Booed In New Orleans For Endorsing Obama

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

Madonna is making sure to leave each concert with a (not-so-great) memory.

After recently taking a spill while on stage in Dallas, the controversial singer drew some boos from the crowd in New Orleans last night after she began praising President Barack Obama.

"Who's registered to vote," she asked concertgoers, and then followed with, "I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama."

After the crowd took issue with her remarks—in the form of boos—the Material Girl went on to say, "Seriously, I don't care who you vote for. Do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote."

Last time Madonna mentioned Obama, and made headlines about it, was when she told a crowd in Washington D.C., "So, you all better vote for f--kin' Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right, we have a black Muslim in the White House!"
She has such a way with words.

Carly Rae Jepsen named Billboard’s rising star

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

Breakout Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen – whose hit Call Me Maybe became the song of the summer – has been named the rising star of 2012 by Billboard Magazine.

“As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award," Jepsen said in a statement.

"I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.”

Call Me Maybe spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, a record-breaking run for a Canadian artist, Billboard said, and has sold more than 10 million singles worldwide.

Her latest album Kiss debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 6.

“The single has become nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon, leading to unprecedented viral fanfare," Billboard editorial director Bill Werde said.

"Few artists have achieved this level of success this early in a career. We are thrilled to honor her extraordinary U.S. debut, and we look forward to seeing where she goes next."

Meanwhile, Firework singer Katy Perry has been named Woman of the Year.

Her 2010 album Teenage Dream notched five Hot 100 No. 1s, a first for an album by a female artist, and has sold 2.5 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album spent over 100 weeks on the Billboard 200.

Perry's impressive numbers also include a record nine No. 1s on the Pop Songs chart, a record seven on the Adult Pop Songs chart, 10 on Dance/Club Play Songs and an overall seven atop the Hot 100.

Perry and Jepsen will be honoured at Billboard's Women in Music event in New York on Nov. 30.

Rihanna is the UK’s 2nd biggest selling female singles artist of all time

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

It’s Rihanna VS Madonna as Official Charts reveals The Official Top 10 Biggest Selling Female Singles Artists Of All Time to celebrate 60 years of the Official Singles Chart!

“There’s less than a month to go before we’ll be donning our party hats and getting set to blow out the candles (all 60 of them) as we celebrate 60 glittering years of the Official Singles Chart. To whet your appetite for this poptastic occasion, the Official Charts Company today reveal The Official Top 10 Biggest Selling Female Singles Artists Of All Time!

Madonna tops the chart with a combined UK singles sales total of 17.8 million. The Queen Of Pop made her British chart debut in January, 1984 with Holiday, which peaked at Number 6. However it wasn’t until a year later that she scored her first Official Singles Chart Number 1 with Into the Groove, which incidentally, is her biggest ever selling track. To date, as a lead artist, Madonna has enjoyed 59 Top 10 hits (including 13 Number 1s).

However, her Madge-sty might soon have a contender for her crown. With a combined singles sales tally as a lead artist of 11.4 million, Rihanna is at Number 2 in our chart. However, given that the 24-year-old Bajan superstar has sold 3 million singles in the last twelve months alone, if Riri continues selling singles at this rate, she could realistically overtake Madonna in the next two-and-a-half years. And she would still only be 27! Bonkers!

Rihanna is of course known for her prolific collaborations, and while the above figures focus solely on her sales as a lead artist, if you were to add in her collaborations, that would bring her total to a staggering 15.1 million!”

To date, Kylie has scored 35 Top 10 hits (including seven Number 1s). Her biggest selling track is 2001′s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

Whitney Houston, who tragically passed away in February of this year, is at Number 4 with a sales total of 8.5 million singles, while Lady Gaga has overtaken Britney Spears in the last four months to take fifth place with 7.329 million UK singles sales.

Christina Aguilera at center of Photoshop scandal with new perfume advert

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

Christina Aguilera recently revealed that she’s embracing her womanly curves.

Yet The Voice coach has today found herself at the centre of a Photoshop scandal, after an advert for her new perfume was released.

Posing in a dusky-pink ballgown with a black bow on the shoot, Christina looked suspiciously like she’d been slimmed-down and bizarrely had her limbs bent at weird angles.

The singer, who perches cross-legged on a shabby-chic inspired armchair for one shot, also appears to have had her wrist retouched to anatomically-incorrect proportions.

In fact, her arm looks too long for her body in the pose – as she pulls a sultry gaze for the camera.

The Photoshop fail didn’t stop there either as website Jezebel noted, with the shadowing on her other arm giving her the illusion of two elbows.

The star's knee also looks off, with a bizarre indentation visible on the side of her knee cap.

The image is of stark contrast to recent pictures of Christina, who has been flaunting a more curvaceous shape of late.

Christina Aguilera Dismisses Tabloid 'Trash,' Calls Simon Cowell a 'Dick' at Industry Event

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD-POLITICS

        via glooce

Christina Aguilera's Keynote Q&A today (Oct. 25) at the Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Conference was as colorful as her two-toned blonde/bright red hair: She dropped some f-bombs, spoke plainly about her career, and even belted out a bit of a classic tune.

"Now everyone is a critic," she said with a smile, on the subject of the tabloid press and online bloggers. "I don't read blogs. It's just God-knows-who in Buttf--- wherever writing hate sh--. You can't take it seriously. I'm sure you've all been hated on at some point by buttf--- people."

"It's real talk today," she said at one point to applause.

Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, joined the singer on a couch in front of a meeting room full of conference attendees at The W Hotel in Hollywood. "Ooh, cozy with Christina!" the singer joked as Werde moved closer to her on the couch, setting the lively and fun tone.

The five-time Grammy winner, whose Max Martin-produced "Your Body" is currently on Billboard's Hot 100, was reflective when answering questions about her nearly lifelong career in music, film and television.

"Sometimes you just know what you're placed on this earth to do," she said of her early days. "Through my childhood I had sort of a chaotic past and upbringing. Music came as a sort of release and escape. Inevitably, you're going to stray toward that path. I started out as a wedding singer singing at block parties at 6, 7 years old. Then came Star Search. That was my first big break at 7 years old. Ed McMahon couldn't say my name right."

She lost Star Search but ended up on The Mickey Mouse Club by age 12, the same program that of course helped launch Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Ryan Gosling. "Great casting agent," Aguilera said by way of understatement. "I think his name was Mike Casella." (She's correct).

She talked about auditioning for then-A&R man Ron Fair (now a special consultant at Front Line Management) in his office. The pair are still friends. "Our kids go to the same pre-school," she noted. "I walked into his office and he was like, 'Sing for me.' I whipped out Whitney Houston's Preacher's Wife gospel songs. That stayed in his mind."

Later, she said she taped herself in her bathroom singing Houston's "I Want to Run With You." She landed her first record deal and the "Mulan" soundtrack the same week.

She's still got the acting bug. She credited Cher with helping her hone her chops on 2010's Burlesque, though she admitted the film wasn't without its cliches. "Cher taught me about how, for your off-camera scenes, [you should] be just as good if not more of an actor [for] the person you're in the scene with. It's going to make the whole thing better -- to really be a giving actor. It makes for an amazing scene. You start to understand and appreciate the beauty of film and the passion, the love and the craft that goes into the whole process. It was a wonderful learning experience."

She and Cher had plenty to bond over, from the highs to the lows of careers in music and film.

"It's hard being such a powerful woman in the business. I'm known for not always being warm and fuzzy, because you'll just get bulldozed over. You learn to put up this little protective shield, but it's because of something. In my music, I come off as being very open about being insecure, vulnerable and sensitive sometimes. Then I'll go onstage and be this powerhouse force to be reckoned with." It's all about that balance, she added.

Part of the way she maintains that balance, she said, is by avoiding the tabloids. "I'm a mother. I'm a businesswoman. I have a zillion and one things going on in my head, on my plate, creatively. I put my son to bed then I go right into my backyard, which is my studio house. It's a lot. I really truly don't have time for the static noise. It's just not real. They're not real magazines. It's trash. It's rumors."

"If my son has a cute picture of him playing soccer one day, I'll be like, 'Oh, forward me that,' but my publicist will tell you, I don't want to hear the good or the bad," she added. "I don't want to believe my own hype. I want to stay hungry and stay eager and be the best that I can be."

Working on The Voice renewed her own hunger as a singer, she said. She credited the experience with her desire to get back out there with her new album, Lotus.

"These 6-year-olds weren't around when I had 'Genie in a Bottle' and 'Fighter,' " she said. "They are watching me in this big red chair giving advice. There's a lot of auto tune going on now and that's all great, it's an art form. But what's great about The Voice [is that] it's just raw, real talent."

Aguilera confessed she hasn't seen much of any of the singing competition shows -- including her own. "I've not actually seen a full episode of any of the other music shows. I saw the commercials early on of American Idol of Simon being a dick. I was like, 'Man, that's not what it's about!' I didn't want to treat people like that. I wanted to do The Voice to show that we can be positive. We don't have to knock people down." Which isn't to say she was knocking American Idol altogether.

"Jennifer Hudson came from American Idol and went on to do Dreamgirls and won an Oscar," she pointed out. "I know we all have different formats. I don't even watch my own show: I tape it, I'm out. Time to be mommy and time to work on my record and of course invest time in my team, picking songs. I juggle a lot."

Christina said she's formed a great friendship with all of her fellow judges. "We've got a chemistry like a family. Everyone knows me and Adam [Levine] can bicker and get on each other's case. Cee-Lo is just cool, he comes from a real artistic value place. Blake [Shelton] is just a good old time. He's become my big bro." Aguilera and Shelton duet on "Just a Fool," one of the new tracks from Lotus.

The album is full of songs with meaning, something she's consciously steered toward for some time now. "I'm a message girl at the end of the day. Songs like 'Beautiful,' songs like 'Fighter.' They're very introverted and can be very vulnerable but empowering. I was tired of singing about fluff and candy and Genie in a Bottle." She noted that she went to people like DJ Premier, Ladytron, Le Tigre and a pre-fame Nicki Minaj at different points in her career. She was also quick to "thank God" for "Genie in a Bottle" and similar songs, because "they gave me the creative freedom that I have now."

"Beautiful" of course remains a staple Aguilera track and she treated the audience to the song's first few lines while telling the story of its creation. "Linda Perry is raw, she's real and she intimidates a lot of grown men. She's amazing. I was having a really bad day. I came into her studio. It was at her house at the time. I was working with her on a bunch of stuff. She just kind of sat down at her piano in her dining room and started singing."

The audience applauded, then Christina went on to explain that Perry discouraged her from doing all of the showy vocal stuff." 'Don't do all that Mariah sh-' -- that was her, not me, I love that sh--!" Aguilera clarified. "But she was like 'don't be doing all that acrobatic sh--, just sing!'"

Perry is a colorful personality on Twitter -- Werde suggested Aguilera start following her. "I was really late to [Twitter]," she admitted. "To me it was presented as like, 'this is what I'm having for breakfast this morning.' I was like, 'Really? Who cares.'" But now she's gotten the hang of what it can be. "I said something the other day on Twitter and I was like, 'Oh, this is what you can use Twitter for!' I might have opened up a whole new can of worms and a new appreciation for it. I just didn't want to be generic. Some people use it in a frivolous way."

There's nothing frivolous about her approach to her new record, which she summarized thusly:

"It's embracing the woman that I've grown to be and embracing myself, full circle, as a pop star. Being on The Voice has made me realize it. And being face to face with my superstar little popstar team on The Voice has been inspiring and inspires me. It's made me come full circle and appreciate the journey of the last decade-plus. I chose Lotus because it represents the unbreakable flower that stands the test of time."

And even more to the point: "Sh-- happens, man. This is the business. It's not going to be all cute and pretty and tied up in a little bow."
